Honey Fingers has a passion for ‘bee cultures’-the unique relationship between bees and humans. Our work focuses on promoting, exploring, and experimenting with this symbiosis, celebrating the intersection of bees and humanity. For this project, Honey Fingers conducted research in Java, Indonesia, investigating traditional beekeeping methods. My focus was on the different smoking practices used by local beekeepers, a distinctive topic perfect for desian exploration.
I created a two-color, 12-page A51 booklet synthesizing our research. This booklet was informed by Honey Fingers’ activities and the client’s brief. To communicate the research in an engaging and dynamic way, I focused my zine design on the smoking practices used in Java. I employed a warm color palette of oranges and yellows, reminiscent of bees, and incorporated bee illustrations and line designs that represent both bee stripes and smoke patterns. This cohesive design ties the research to the visual elements, making the information both informative and visually appealing.
